Srebrenica: Never Again, Again: July 11, 1995

In a UN safe area in Bosnia, more than 8,000 men and boys were murdered in the worst atrocity on European soil since the Second World War. The graves are still being found. Remembering is not optional, it is the only defence the dead have left.

The town had been declared a UN "safe area", a promise printed on paper that stopped no one. In July 1995, over eight thousand men and boys were separated from their families and never seen alive again.

Every July 11th, newly identified victims are buried at Potočari, DNA work that continues to this day, grave by grave. Quo Vadis, Aida?, made by a Bosnian director, was nominated for an Oscar; its final scene is one of the most devastating in European cinema.
